A riotous, self-assured, empowering single from Glasgow alt-rock band Clay Rings.
Clay Rings formed in 2022 and continue to glide across genres with their extensive discography which exemplifies their talent and drive as emerging artists. Their newest track, released on the 13th of December, feels more gritty and garage-inspired than previous releases. The powerful bass line from bassist/vocalist Freddie and the laid back Purdie shuffle from drummer Nathan is reminiscent of new wave with an undercurrent of psych rock.
The Glasgow indie band pull on influences such as Fleetwood Mac and Pixies and we can see this underpin their new track Limelight. The lyrics of the song have a narrative flow and explore modern love and heart ache with a healthy dose of dramatic irony as ‘Limelight’ is battle of narcissistic hedonism and ego (which may or may not be a commentary on dating musicians).
Eve is a strong lyricist and an even stronger vocalist as she uses soft melodies juxtaposed with crispy diction to breathe life into the song. The band collaborate well on this track to create a full and deep sound throughout and I particularly enjoyed the electro pop punk guitar outro from guitarist/vocalist Oli which added to the already dramatic styling.
‘Limelight’ is a fantastical theatrical track which has catharsis at its heart and is a thoroughly enjoyable listen. I can’t wait to hear more new and exciting music from Clay Rings as they continue to flourish and grow into a household name in the Glasgow music scene.
