SINGLE REVIEW | WOEFUL IDLE | SMILE

Glasgow based pop rockers Woeful Idle ended 2024 on a high with the release of their latest single ‘SMILE’ and it is the vibe we all need to carry with us in 2025 as we say good riddance to the people that bring us down.

I like to think of this song as the perfect anthem for when you’ve finally had enough of that one specific person in your life after they have managed to irritate every nerve within you.

There’s no room left for misunderstanding with these lyrics as the verse starts off strong with ‘’I don’t want to know what you’re thinking, I really don’t want to know. I’m sick of the sight of your face and the sound of your voice.’’

‘SMILE’ is a refreshingly honest and thoughtful song. The rhythm and melody are simple and refined as it gives space for the lyrics to really hit the listener. The bass and guitar do a great job of moving the song forward, not allowing the song to become monotone and giving the song bursts of energy.

The production of this track also deserves its moment of attention as it does a great job highlighting the songs fun sounds. I couldn’t envision a better ending for this song, and it creates the perfect opportunity for a fun transition within an album or EP.

This is a great song which really shows the bands capability. I have no doubt that Woeful Idle will become a well-known name in the Scottish music scene as I can see them easily smashing it a festival.
