MEET THE TEAM | HARVEY TODD

What is your role at Discovery Music?
My role at Discovery Music to write reviews on the latest and hottest music coming out of the Scottish music scene, ranging from gigs, singles EP’s and more.

When did you join Discovery Music?
I’m still new to the DM team having only joined in April, but I’ve already got a few reviews under my belt and I’m enjoying every part of being involved with the team and finding new music.

What do you do outwith Discovery Music?
Outwith DM, I write songs and play in a band called ’SLIX’ and I would really appreciate it if you would check us out. I’m also in college but that’s not as interesting so I won’t bore you with it.

Why did you want to join DM?
I’ve always had a real passion for music especially in Glasgow and the Scottish scene in general going to gigs with my friends regularly travelling to venues and festivals. I’m studying HND Media at college and music journalism is a perfect mix for me and I am loving being involved within the musical journalism circuit.

Who’s your favourite Scottish artists?
It’s hard to narrow my favourites down as there truly is so many great bands going about at the moment, but stand outs for me that I’d rush to get tickets to see will always be The Dunts, Voodoos, Gallus and Baby Strange.

Best gig you have been to?
Best gig I’ve ever been to has to be The Stone Roses at Hampden a few years back, everything about that day was perfect with hot summer weather, a huge group of pals and an overall amazing atmosphere. Arctic Monkeys at TRNSMT is a close second for the same reasons.

Best venue in Scotland you have been to?
I am a huge fan of The Barrowlands, everytime I’ve been I’ve had an amazing time and I love the retro look of it all.

Favourite festival you have attended?
The best festival I’ve ever been to is Truck Festival in Oxford, I went last year with a handful of pals and it was an amazing experience so much so that I bought tickets for 2020 as soon as they went on sale without knowing the lineup, I’m so gutted I won’t be able to attend this year.

If you could create your own festival, who would be your 3 headliners?
My top 3 headliners would have to be Oasis, The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys purely due to the fact that they could play any of their songs and I’d love whatever setlist they came out with.

What’s your favourite genre of music and why?
I’m sure this will come as a shock but my favourite genre is indie rock, but I have quite an open taste and will listen to almost anything.

How would you describe the Scottish music scene in 3 words?
Energetic, passionate and welcoming.

What’s the best and worst thing about the Scottish Music scene?
Best thing about the Scottish scene is how the fans and bands all support each other and it’s obvious when bands are playing shows together and just having a great time because they’ve got a strong friendship and bond over a love of making music. The worst thing would probably be promoters that mess people over and don’t pay support bands or headliners the money they deserve for bringing crowds and giving a performance.

Favourite drink at the pub?
Over isolation I’ve been converted to rum and coke, and my favourite shot is Fireball. A venom dragon soop never goes a miss for a train journey on route to a gig.
