Review | The World of Hans Zimmer @ OVO HYDRO

The show really lived up to it’s name. The minute you step into the venue and take your seat, you can feel the magic in the air. It was made even more magical when the music, lights, costumes and interactions with the audience had all came together. Even though Hans wasn’t there he still managed to make the show personal to him, by occasionally popping up in a pre-recorded video on the big screens behind the stage, telling us stories of certain movie tracks, particular creative methods he used and what had inspired him for certain musical patterns. For example, Hans mentioned that the famous melody for the movie titled “Interstellar” was written in an old, grand Church hired specifically for writing this track. It was late and they experienced a storm and the echoing sounds of rain against the painted glass inspired the beautiful piano pattern, sonically resembling it. I would definitely highlight the conductor Gavin Greenaway who was the glue of the show, holding it together and making sure the band was working like a clock. Gavin said something that perfectly reflected the essence and point of why we all were there: “Music is older than a language . It is a fundamental part of being human.

The talent within the Hans Zimmer band who I would like to also highlight are: Cello player Mariko Muranaka, super talented brass player Pedro Eustache, beautiful violinist Rusanda Panfili and remarkable singer Lisa Gerrard who graced her voice on the “Gladiator” main soundtrack. There were many, many more musicians I would love to also mention as they all were remarkable but you would have to come and visit the Hans Zimmer show yourself to experience it first hand.
