Gig Review | Casey Mcquillen @ The Classic Grand

Personally, I love seeing the first European and UK headline shows of international artists and I’ve had the pleasure to witness a bunch but this show felt a lot more personal. Casey, being already an established artist in the USA and opening for multiple big artists in Europe and the UK, shared that she was really comfortable being the opener, but tonight was different for her as it was her first headline gig of her headline tour and it was a really special moment. There was no high stage, no restrictions for photography and no barriers and all of that made the show feel free flowing, intimate and allowed Casey to interact with the audience in a much more relaxed way and she did just that. The jokes she had in store between the sets connected with attendees and laughter was filling up the room the whole night, seductive dancing, great lighting and her very powerful, yet feminine voice had brightened up everyone’s Friday night. Casey shared personal stories, helping listeners understand the depth of the songs, the backstory behind writing them, and allowed the audience to put their own interpretation of the song to the test or simply dive into their private memories, whilst listening to the great music. Everyone was taken on an emotional rollercoaster and so was I.

I also must mention the very well selected opening act for the evening. That was the lovely and soulful Carrie Mac. With just the piano and her warm and welcoming attitude, she had set up a good taste of what was to come and made me want to go and check out her Spotify immediately. I also recommend that you do the same. So all in all, it was a fabulous night and I highly suggest you go and get those tickets any time Casey Mcquillen is back in the UK or Europe!
