Single Review | OCEXNS | Headstrong

OCEXNS’ latest single serves as a further development of their sound, and is a must listen for any indie fans!

Falkirk indie four-piece OCEXNS have released their third single, and it’s a stunning representation of leaving a toxic relationship and being stronger after it.

Released on March 1st, the song opens with a guitar riff reminiscent of The Vistas, setting the tone for the bright indie-rock sound that OCEXNS have come to be known for. This song is definitely one for blasting with the roof down in the summer with friends and dancing along to.

The song tells a story of looking back on an old relationship and realising that after all the wrong that has happened in a relationship, they’re better off without them and stronger because of it. With this experience and feeling like they’ve ‘dodged a bullet’ due to the nature of the relationship.

“All you want is everything, but you want it to yourself.
“I guess i’ve gone and dodged a bullet, go f*cking gaslight someone else”

With a chorus telling of how after all of this they should’ve left sooner and feeling like they’re thriving due to the lack of toxicity in life, this song allows for an experience that many people have gone through to become a new feeling of relief and satisfaction.

“Headstrong, if I’d knew all along”
“That i should be breathing without you”

Off the back of their support slot at King Tuts in December, this is the first single recorded in their new studio and fully produced by singer Ross Mitchell, which is an exciting step for the band, meaning any new music will be produced fully in house!

This is an exciting new direction for OCEXNS to take, and with a support slot for Girls Speak French at Audio on the 13th April, they are a band to keep an eye on in the near future!
