EP REVIEW | ALI STOTT | FORGIVENESS EP

Alternative Folk Singer-Songwriter, Ali Stott, Soothes The Soul and Haunts It with Debut EP, ‘Forgiveness’.

What’s the Score?

From the rising Scottish folk scene in Glasgow, Ali Stott has swayed many with his charmingly soft and whimsical ballads. All through the bars, pubs and cafes that the city has to offer, he has played, in great folk tradition, with honesty and sincerity to the drinkers and the singers. Now, he has released a full EP which provides an open door into the musician’s colourful and serene soundscape.

The EP

The first thing that hits you with this project is that it has a great use of space. The EP isn’t afraid to breathe at all. Tracks like the opener, ‘Forgiveness’, rock you from side to side as you float down the river of Ali Stott’s tender melody.

‘Atrophy’, jigs along with lyrics that weave in and out of the line of poetry. The piece mourns the slow degenerative disease that is being alive. Despite such a melancholy subject matter, it is amazing how Stott manages to keeps a skip in his step, throughout the whole song!

‘Anchor’, showcases the singer’s great ability to link the outer with the inner, turning a nostalgic stroll into a beckoning call for security. The curtain closes on’ ‘Skeletons’. Playfully macabre and sombre. Quirky, yet sinister and dark. This song could be the most heart breaking and certainly the most naked of the whole collection. It is here we are left.

Wrapping It All Up!

Ali Stott takes you through the troubles and teachings of his adult life. He does so like it’s a long trail through a dark forest on a frosty, warm winter morning. After all, isn’t that what all folk music should be at the end of the day? I absolutely think so!

Don’t just listen to me rambling on and have a listen for yersel!
