SINGLE REVIEW | ROBIN ASHCROFT | PASSENGER SEAT

Glasgow’s Robin Ashcroft has crafted the perfect summer single (vibe…and from a certain point of view, subject matter) that brings more of a summer than our disreputable terrible weather. ‘Passenger Seat’ is a great radio and playlist-friendly addition for feel-good times whether you’re in a reminiscent mood or just want to sit back, relax and enjoy the music.

There’s a familiar nature of Robin’s pop-rock upbeat new single clocking in at the model three and a half minutes, which helps in solidifying the need for radio play and repeatability. The key change in the final chorus also hearkens back to songs of the late nineties/early noughties (not strictly…) giving it the ‘Mario mushroom power-up’ effect to end the song on a high. The perfectly singalongable – if that’s even a word – melodies and Ashcroft’s mellifluous voice as she reflectively sings ‘You set me free’, makes for easy and enjoyable listening and is well worth adding to your summer party/BBQ playlists.

Whether it be loss, a break-up, a distancing friendship or the cutting of family ties, everybody can relate in one way or another to ‘Passenger Seat’.
