SINGLE REVIEW | PROTECTION | ON LOVE

Following the release of their track ‘Thirst Shrine’, ‘On Love’ is the second track to be released from Glasgow based Protection’s upcoming EP, ‘SEEDS II’.

Protection is one of the latest projects from Chvrches Iain Cook and Glasgow artist Scott Paterson. The collaboration has birthed tracks which are constantly challenging the borders of electronic music, and their new EP is shaping up to be just as rebellious in the face of genre profiles. ‘On Love’ is mesmerising and energetic. Featuring a heavy build, the track introduces itself with electronic drum and bass and echoey vocals. The layering is worked cleverly to provide depth amongst the frantic tempo, and is where the interest is really peaked.

Iain is quoted explaining the importance of having fun with making these sounds. Creating tracks which draw from what we know as D’n’B and dubstep, but testing how the genres boundaries can be pushed.

“The entire premise of the project was for us to have fun together – to us the fun is in the exploration of music and seeing what our version of a known style sounds like.”

Words from Iain Cook – Taken from Press Release

The experimentation and fun the duo have had in creating ‘On Love’ is infectious. The latest release is sure to leave you eager to hear more, and if this is the case you will not be disappointed. Protection are releasing one track each fortnight until the release of the full EP on 1st September.
