Indie rock quartet Low Tide have knocked it out the park yet again with another track packed with energy you’ll be sure to bang your head to. Their new release ‘Optimist’ perfectly captures the feeling of becoming consumed by your valiant efforts to keep up with a lovers “optimistic” demands when you know it is more than you have available to offer.
The track comes in strong with distinct and driving rhythms before smoothly falling into the more subdued verse which sets the scene for the story being told. The pace builds back up leading into the first chorus as the drums, guitar and vocals sync up while the bass rings out a beautifully melodic cadenza underneath. We are then thrown into the explosive chorus and singer Beau Johnstons deeply emotive and desperate declaration of willingness to completely drown in the name of love. Moving into the second round of verse and chorus everything is larger as the music inflates with bigger drum fills and even bigger whaling bass fills that reflects the undertones of longing perfectly. The song draws to a close with a short but impactful guitar solo crying out into the big finish joined by a booming drum fill.
The lyrics of this song paint a poetic imagery. The love interests expectations and needs are compared to an ocean, and the doomed attempts at reciprocation as treading the water desperately until inevitably sinking. This paired with the tracks hauntingly passionate melodies and vocals creates an immersive and effective portrayal of the overwhelm felt when giving more than you have.

Overall, ‘Optimist’ is a solid Indie Rock anthem with equal parts emotion and groove, so if you like big drum sounds, uncouth basslines, screaming guitars and vocals that will jump out of your headphones then this is one to have a listen to!
