It has been a while since I have managed to get myself along to a gig but when I saw one of my favourite bands were coming to Glasgow then I just knew that I had to be there. Having seen the band perform multiple times over the years in Scotland, that band always get a warm welcome when they come up the road from Manchester to play. Unfortunately I was running late so by the time I picked up my pass and made into the venue I just in time for Pale Waves starting so I didn’t manage to catch the supports.
It has been a while since I was last at SWG3 gig and with this being a sold out show the audience was packed in but leaving just enough room for people to get in and to the bar etc. There was a buzz in the area as the capacity crowd waited patiently for the band to arrive. Just after 9pm the lights went down and the band came onto the stage much to the delight of the audience. Starting their set with “Perfume” and “Not A Love Song” this was a set list that was a mixture of new and old songs which made it brilliant to hear all the old fan favourites such as “Television Romance” and “She Is My Religion” and also to hear the newer ones played live for the first time. The audience were allowed to choose one the songs on the set. It was between “Red” and “Unwanted” and ultimately Red was the winner.
The best part of the gig was after the encore was when lead singer Heather Baron-Gracie came back onto the stage again but this time wearing a Scotland shirt, much to the delight of the crowd. Baron-Gracie often mentions how much she loves Glasgow and also the fact that her Dad is from Glasgow and what better way to show her love from the city than to write a song titled “Glasgow”. This is the first time I had heard it laugh and sounded amazing, the highlight of the gig for me.
As the gig ended and the crowd started to disperse from SWG3, I couldn’t help but think that I can’t wait for the next time the band played again in Scotland I would make sure I would be there for it.
