SINGLE REVIEW | DECLAN WELSH AND THE DECADENT WEST | ANOTHER ONE

The fourpiece release their first new music of 2021.

Hailing from East Kilbride, Declan Welsh is a songwriter and poet who together with his band The Decadent West, has taken the scene by storm since their first release in 2017, and needless to say they have gained themselves a reputation as one of Scotland’s most exciting live bands.

Their latest release is a brooding ballad, all dark synths and swirling instruments that are sure to captivate you from the offset. It takes a slower pace than most of the band’s indie rock anthems, only making the track more moving and impactful.

The track’s lyrics explore the subject of lockdown isolation and are something we can all connect to. Declan Welsh seems to perfectly encapsulate how life has felt over the last 14 months trying to navigate the loneliness of the pandemic. The band commented on twitter:

“It’s a song about being far apart from each other, and specifically about the very strange year we’ve all spent indoors. It’s a wee journey, musically and lyrically, and I think the tune sort of reflects the way different emotions are constantly competing in your head when you have too much time to reflect. It’s about boredom, anxiety, fear, aimlessness, hope and looking forward to seeing other people again. We hope you like it x”

Declan Welsh and The Decadent West’s sound is growing in maturity and complexity with each release, they are a band packed with promise and talent and are set to keep growing. The quartet are set to embark on a UK headline tour this autumn as well as some festival dates. You can listen to “Another One” here.
