Recounting times gone by and fleeting youthfulness, The Zebecks’ newest single Roseisle drives home the musical and lyric abilities of the Elgin-based indie-rock band. Not only that, it’s an ode to the North-East; a song full of love for origins and journeys. Roseisle fills the soul and perfectly displays The Zebecks at their best.
Nostalgia and home-sickness are woven through the song. Roseisle faces that pit of sadness in the stomach and fills it with the warmth of heartfelt yet bittersweet emotion. The unconcealed Scottish accent adds another, well-welcomed layer of sincerity.
A snappy guitar and drum encompass the vocals, cheery and uplifting; reminiscent of the childish innocence the lyrics describe. Roseisle tells a beautiful story and has a beautiful sound.
The final bridge of the song hits the hardest. The vocals are shouting, ranting, as the sound of the band builds. Background bagpipes are slipped in as the sound grows- the passion is peaking. The emotion explodes as the final chorus begins, delivering the story of Roseisle with a final conviction. Contentment is felt as the song simmers out; the happiness comes from a tale wonderfully finished and a song brilliantly produced.
With Roseisle, The Zebecks have proven they are more than worth their salt. They’ve the musical and lyrical talent to go far, as well the heart. They understand what makes a song captivating, grabbing listeners with their transparent sincerity. Hook, line and sinker- anyone who listens to this song will become a fast fan of The Zebecks.
