SINGLE REVIEW | ALY MACPHERSON | INFORMATION SUPERHIGHWAY

Modern day 80s vibes!

Aly Macpherson’s single “Information Superhighway” blends modern grunge with 80s gamer vibes and I’m here for it! Aberdeenshire born, now dwelling in Glasgow, Aly found that lockdown instigated his song writing. With his singles, “Not Smart” and “Pocket in the Woods”, and his 2020 EP “Songs for the Sake Of It”, he now adds “Information Superhighway” to his discography.

The song is a builder, starting with a catchy guitar riff which creates the spine throughout the tune, leading off into synth pop chillness and electrifying guitar riffs. Fading out into retro – electro, I feel like I’m standing under UV lights in an arcade!

The statement and message of Information Superhighway is one really relatable to us all and a really important one. Macpherson explains himself that the song is about the internet and how lonely a place it can be. Macpherson picks up on major elements of the more damaging sides of being online, these being;

“another fast trend”

And

“Keto diet”

Also highlighting the thoughts most of us have when posting online;

“Did she like my newest one”

But also keeps the lighter side in amongst it with the upbeat, fun musicality and poking fun at

“Celebrity apologies”.

“Information Superhighway” is a super cool tune that I could imagine hearing in the movie Back To The Future!
