SINGLE REVIEW | RESPITE | OXYGEN

The new track “Oxygen,” which combines pop and punk ballads, was released only last week  by Glasgow’s pop-punk band Respite.                                                                                                                  Oxygen was scrawled on the highways connecting hospitals and in hospital waiting rooms all around the United Kingdom. When you can only wait and hope for the best and you don’t know what will happen next, it’s about negotiating, asking, and praying at the bedside of a loved one. Seeing someone you care about and admire go through a difficult time that you would never want anyone to go through and hoping they survive?

Bands like Don Broco, Mallory Knox, and A Day To Remember have influenced Respite, which produces catchy, upbeat earworms with a hint of depth. Oxygen instantly gives you a pop-punk vibe with its energetic beats, lively rhythm, and soothing vocals. Lyrics such as “They said it’s going to be a bumpy ride you’re barely into the woods that you’re lost in, You’ve got to give it time” indicates a break up and therefore exhibits challenges with self-expression and showing introspection and a sense of insecurity.

Low vocals set against a lively rhythm elevate the tune, and the profound poetry contrasted with the pounding beat gives Glasgow’s music culture a distinctive feel. Since it invariably establishes a sense of relatability with the listener and unites the artist and audience, I truly like Respite’s ability to blend melodic components with insightful lyrics.

With this new track, Respite gives the Glasgow pop-punk scene a current and fresh makeover. You should definitely give this new song a few listens to fully appreciate it.
