Single Review | Panic | Hopes Avenue

The Scottish music scene keeps giving – yet again. This time around by virtue of Hopes Avenue. The four piece band was formed in Ayrshire, Scotland in late 2021 but are now Glasgow’s own. Whether it is predicting our feeling of anticipation and frankly, panic before the single comes out on the 8th of February, or baldly reflecting on the state of the current world, it won’t leave you indifferent. Listeners, who secretly or not so much, cradle the appreciation of a Metalcore, Pop-Punk and Post Hardcore band will find comfort in this fast, rhythmic and at times systematically chaotic drum beats, delivered by Michael Harvey and isolated, clean and deep vocals of lead singer Dennis Coles.

Starting up with a slightly longer, easy flowing intro and more softer measured, restrained vocals, the song quickly picks up to a busy, fast tempo second verse and chorus, maintaining that style right to the end. This kind of flow, along with the mind and soul touching melody and rhythm helps clearly project the emotions the band intended to share with the audience, making this song very relatable. The lyrics are definitely more storytelling and the openness of them creates another connective string with the listener. The tune has familiarity to the Metal genre with vocal screaming and strong electric guitar riffs played tightly by Will Phillips and Jamie Mcjannet, gently reminding you of such bands like Evanescense and Nickelback.

Following the quartets success of a self produced EP “Revive” released in March 2023, receiving 50000 streams across all the platforms, with growing numbers by today, it’s safe to say that “Panic” will do just as well. Keep an eye on Hopes Avenue as they are definitely one to watch!
