Filmstar, a thriving band through Edinburghs local music scene has released their single titled “So Much For Love” following the previous launch of their debut EP “Reality Bites” which seen music-hungry fans counting down the seconds to launch. In the band’s own words, “While it’s only the beginning of Filmstar, we wanted to showcase our musical diversity with this EP.” The best of songs from “Reality Bites” ultimately lead to the creation of “So Much For Love”, conjuring a tune which displays the highlights of their musical songwriting ability.

Why give “So Much For Love” a listen?

The narrative for Filmstars single begins with punchy, driving guitars with clear inspiration from notable bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins already engaging listeners in just the first couple of seconds with such raw high energy. It is made clear from this single exactly what their sound is, with enticing faced paced verses and dramatic choruses paying homage to bands such as the truly iconic Alice in Chains and Paramore. Instrumentally, the sound of “So Much For Love” closely resembles the early 2000s Grunge era, with melodic guitar parts of Avenged Sevenfold and even rhythmic, foot-tapping bass-lines of The Police. While the inspiration behind Filmstar is clear, it is also obvious that their sound is unique and truly not one to forget. Since Filmstars first debut single “See the signs”, they have taken a clear interest in writing more big choruses, the choruses in which Filmstar fans scream out like anthems. Choruses which aren’t going to leave your mind.

Despite “So Much For Love” having such a driving, upbeat, dancing feel, upon listening closely you realise the true meaning behind the song. Betrayal. But this isn’t your typical break-up tune, its about a broken friendship. The lyrics poetically dive in to feelings of pain, loss, grief, and betrayal in a way written so skilfully that any fan can relate. The painful thoughts hidden behind such high-energy grunge through pure anger and emotion is remarkable in its ways, emphasising that Filmstars musical ability is truly to be rewarded.

“It’s quite a release to be able to sing something about broken trust, because there’s so much grief that comes from a friendship collapsing, even in your twenties. I just hope that if anyone is going through something similar, this song can be as cathartic for them to scream as it is for me.” – Lauren, vocals

Overall, if you like to scream, jump, and belt out unforgettable choruses with friends, “So Much For Love” is for you. With a punchy groove, angry guitars, and soul-touching lyrics, this single is for all ears.
