SINGLE REVIEW | FAUVES | WITHER AWAY

Glasgow indie pop band Fauves are living up to the origin of their name with the release of vibrant track ‘Wither Away’

Glasgow indie pop band Fauves are living up to the origin of their name with the release of vibrant track ‘Wither Away’. The track adds yet another notch onto the already impressive collection of jazz-infused indie pop that the group have become associated with.

The track begins with a smooth and crisp guitar introduction which then ushers the listener into a funky serenade from singer Ryan Caldwell as his almost theatrical and emphatic style of vocalization is introduced and surely sending the listener into a state of sonic euphoria. As the track begins to pick up steam, we are met with yet another funk-infused bassline which serves the track as a driving force for the dance feel of the track. The track is ended with an impressive climax of the hook being repeated and thus creating an earworm for the listener and a track that will be impactful in hopefully inspiring other Glasgow acts to participate in this special blend of sonic styles.

Fauves have made incredible waves with playing the likes of Belladrum, Tenement Trails and a BBC Introducing Stage, with them also gaining critical acclaim with the likes of BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway who has compared the group to the likes of MGMT and Metronomy, with others citing acts such as Tame Impala. It is safe to say that the vibrant and exciting group will be on everyone’s radar soon enough.
