Gig Review | The Home Team | Cathouse | 07.12.24

What a night! I was one of the lucky 2,480 people who got to witness The Home Team absolutely smash it at their sold-out show in Glasgow’s legendary Cathouse. This was their first-ever UK headline tour, and it was clear from the moment they hit the stage that they were on a roll. You could even grab unique merchandise that marked the occasion that you were one of those fans who sold out their first U.K tour – a cool little memento of an unforgettable night.

The band kicked things off with fan-favourite “Brag” – the energy in the room was electric from the start, with the crowd already hyped and the band absolutely firing on all cylinders. The atmosphere was buzzing, and it was obvious this was going to be a great show. The production was simple but spot-on, with LED lighting subtly changing colours to match each song’s mood, really adding to the vibe without overshadowing the performance.

One of the highlights was definitely the lead singer, Brian Butcher. He’s got such a genuine, smiley energy that you could tell he was loving every second of performing in front of the Glasgow crowd. He kicked things off with, “Glasgow, how we doing? Thank you so much for being here on our first UK headline show!” before diving straight into “Right Through Me”. This track was definitely a crowd favourite, with people dancing and jumping in unison – the band and the crowd were completely synced.

Frontman Brian was super engaging throughout, introducing the next track with, “We’ve released a lot of music this year – this song is about being as tired as f***, and it goes out to anyone who’s also tired as f***” before playing “Love and Co.” His down-to-earth and relatable vibe really kept the crowd connected.

And then there were the guitarists! One of them had a seriously cool spiky guitar strap, which I couldn’t help but notice. It’s those little touches that make a live show feel special.

I think I could honestly write a whole review just on the band’s charm, but particularly hearing those around me comment on Brian. He’s got that look and energy – the kind that makes hearts melt. I couldn’t help but notice the swooning fans around me as he flipped his luscious locks and worked the crowd with his geeky-but-charming dance moves. His serious eye contact and infectious smile had the whole room in the palm of his hand.

As if on cue, the band broke into their newer release “Turn You Off” – and that’s when things got real. The lead singer shared some raw honesty about the band’s journey, saying: “We’ve had a lot of growing pains, but it’s brought us a lot of gratitude. This is our first time headlining the UK, and we’re so grateful for all of you being here. We never thought this tour would sell out so fast.”

The next track, “She’s Quiet,” was a nod to their early days, and you could tell that it meant a lot to them to have people still singing along after four years.

The crowd was loving the journey, but then, out of nowhere, the lead singer asked: “Anyone here like metal music?” and launched into “Hell”. The energy instantly shifted into overdrive, with a mini pit opening up and the crowd moshing hard. It was one of those moments where you couldn’t help but get swept up in the raw power of it all.

They kept the momentum going, playing “Roommates” and “Overtime” back-to-back. These tracks were released together on the same day, and the crowd responded with pure energy, dancing and singing along like it was an anthem.

Then, the band dropped “Move It or Lose It,” and the crowd surfers appeared – in the intimate space of the Cathouse, it felt wild but so much fun to watch. The lead singer’s energy was contagious, moving and grooving with every beat. And when they played “Walk This World With Me,” the whole venue lit up with torches and phone lights, creating a beautiful moment.

Throughout the night, the band were so gracious, constantly thanking the crowd, even during the breakdowns of the songs. They never lost that sense of connection with the fans, which made the night feel even more special. A standout moment was during “Watching All Your Friends Get Rich”, where the guitarists did a synchronized arm dance at the back of the stage – it was goofy but infectious, just showing how much fun they were having.

As the night came to a close, the lead singer said, “Glasgow, you’ve been phenomenal. Thank you so much for being here tonight. We are The Home Team – I have one final request, and you promise me you won’t be afraid to get loud!” The band ended their set with “Loud” – and the crowd sure delivered, roaring along.

But that wasn’t the end! They came back for an encore of “Danger” and “On”, sending the crowd home buzzing with adrenaline.

From the first note to the final encore, The Home Team delivered an incredible performance that left Glasgow buzzing long after the lights came up. They’re a band that knows how to put on a show – full of energy, heart, and a genuine connection with their fans. Their first UK headline show was a total triumph, and I’m already looking forward to seeing them again. If you get the chance to catch them on tour, don’t miss it!
