Gig Review | King Nun @ Sneaky Pete’s

King Nun Scottish Shows Poster

“The venue was full of people anticipating their infectious performing.

London group King Nun brought their tour, and second album, to the Scottish capital where they played the vibrant venue of Sneaky Pete’s.

Support 1: Flat Party

London based group Flat Party ignited the night of talent as they brought their eclectic discography to life. The foundation of their setlist was formed by their debut self-titled EP which includes tracks like ‘Glances In The Dark‘ and ‘I’m Bored, Give Me Love’. Their already captivating tunes were bound to be electrifying live, and Flat Party delivered nothing but that.

With such powerful playing of their art-rock style, myself and my friend kept a look out for their drinks which travelled from their original spot down to the front of the stage. Ultimately, their energetic set was such a sight to witness. Their frontman had such incredible stage presence, even on the smaller stage, that there was always someone and something to watch.

Flat Party are a band destined for bigger stages, for sure. This is no negative reflection on the venue or the band, but the group have so much personality that the more intimate venue of Sneaky Pete’s wasn’t enough to contain them. If you get the chance to see Flat Party at a gig, I 100% recommend going, you absolutely won’t regret it.

Support 2: Oh Romance

Next to push musical talents further were Scottish trio Oh Romance. Formed by Kevin, Blair and Alex, the group demonstrated exactly why they’re a band to watch. I’ve followed the band’s journey for a while and have only now been able to catch them live, and I’m so glad I did.

The trio’s music is a fusion of vibrant varieties. From alternative influences to indie-rock notions, Oh Romance make tunes to cater for a range of tastes. Their setlist was created primarily from their debut EP “Kiss & Tell” and debut single ‘Animals‘ which doesn’t feature on the EP. The hauntingly hypnotic tunes proved successful in the crowded room, giving the exact effect I’d imagined they would.

Finally catching the group live also meant finally seeing ‘Celebrity‘ being performed too. This track is one I immediately became attached to when I reviewed the EP in June of last year. Unique vocals and energetic playing afforded the band the instant ability to captivate the packed out room.

Like with Flat Party, Oh Romance are set to grow into a much bigger version of what they currently are. I’m excited to see how they evolve as a band and as live performers.

Headline: King Nun

Headlining this explosive night were King Nun. The South West London five-piece brought their 18 date Far Away From The Farm Tour to the Scottish capital to the notable venue of Sneaky Pete’s. Having already opened for bands like Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, it was no surprise to see how popular the band has become, and how packed out the venue was, full of people anticipating their infectious performing.

A mix of songs from both their albums formed the entirety of their setlist. Primarily, these tracks came from their second, and most recent, album “Lamb“. This record includes four singles consisting of ‘But We Live On The Beach‘, ‘Sinking Feeling‘ and popular the popular ‘Golden Age‘ and ‘Selfish‘. The latter of these singles have nearly 79,000 and 130,000 streams respectively and it’s clear to see why.

The band’s style of performing is impressive, a lively level of energy that leaves you tired just watching them. I loved seeing them live, even though I wasn’t as familiar with their material as the dedicated fans were who filled the venue. However, they’re definitely a band I’ll continue to listen to and hopefully it won’t be long before I see their existing discography, and any future tracks, again sometime soon.
