In celebration of her brand-new EP launch “Trust the Process,” Scottish pop diva, Jasmin Jet delivered one of the most exciting sold-out local headline shows of the summer. This “Drama Queen” took Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms stage to showcase her music, new and old with powerful vocals. Backed with a full live band, we experienced a fusion of pop, soul and R&B influences, creating a sound that displayed her outstanding vocal ability.
Jasmin has been focusing on her goals of becoming an established artist for a long time. The rising star has won a handful of singing/ songwriting competitions and awards throughout her career so far such as “Scottish Young Musicians, best vocalist of the year” and “Greene Kings Untapped Competition”, while performing in front of McFly’s Danny Jones and having a mentoring session with Sam Ryder, blowing them away with her skills.
We started off the night with opening acts from Aidan Jones and Florence Jack. Both support acts had an immense success in getting the crowd warmed up ahead of the set. Florence jack began on stage and got the crowd up on their feet, introducing us to new music that she has been working on. Each song had acoustic instrumentals with heartfelt lyrics allowing her emotional story telling abilities to shine and resonate with the crowd. Following on, Aidan jones took the floor, presenting us with fun, pop, bouncy tunes. Songs from his EP “Overkill” and newer songs such as “My House”, he had the ability to encourage the crowd to sing along and dance, refining what male pop can sound and look like. Both support acts showcased amazing talents which matched the touching songs and pop vibes of Jasmins set and introduced the room to further local, Scottish talent to support.
Excitement built ahead of Jasmins set. From the minute she stepped onto the stage, opening with “Classy Woman” she had a connection with the crowd that was so memorable. Between songs, Jasmin shared stories, laughs and reflections on her journey with the crowd that made a sold-out room feel so close together. Audience engagement was strong from beginning to end, with everyone applauding and singing together to show immense support for her insane talents. She took selfies with the crowd, showing her gratitude towards the crowds’ warmth and how proud she was to capture this life changing moment.
As well as show-stopping singing and dancing, the visual stage set up was eye-catching and matched the vibe of the show perfectly. The colourful presentation, the lighting and the stage decor of feather boas, tiaras and heart shaped glasses, complemented Jasmin and the bands energies well. Through each song it was visible of her growing confidence as a performer. A standout of the night was Jasmin’s ability to move through emotional ballads to upbeat songs that had you hooked with every storyline. Each song was incredibly received with her melodies and dance moves that got each audience member on their feet. At the end of the show, as the band exited the stage, the crowd were chanting for one more song as they couldn’t get enough of this popstar’s talent! In response of the demands, they returned to the floor to do one more song and everyone was ecstatic.
As the show came to a close, Jasmin returned to the back of the room, at the merch stand that her mum was running, further confirming her immense support system for her career. It displayed her merch that was eye-catching and on theme with her new and upcoming EP. There were also physical media and accessories. The popstar stayed until she had spoken to everyone, took photos, laughed, signed items and made sure everyone’s exit of the show was as memorable as when they walked in.
The way in which her passion for her music bursts through with each song and dance makes for an electric atmosphere. This show felt like a significant moment in Jasmins music career which we all had the privilege to capture with her. Jasmin Jet is an unbelievably talented performer who is emerging to becoming a Scottish pop star. Her headline show at The Voodoo Rooms was a celebration of her career so far and a glimpse of what’s next for Jasmin Jet.
