Ike Goldman has recently released their new album ‘Kiki Goldman in ‘How I Learned to Sing for Statler and Waldorf’, made at their home in Glasgow. This is a baroque inspired album conveyed by the classical instrumentation, string and vocal arrangements throughout.
This unique album brings you an a journey, telling you a story about making records, presented as a stage show with characters working with/against each other in the process of creation.
This album contains a series of songs that blend into each other to tell this one big story. Each track tells a different part of this persons life, the highs and the lows, making sure to covey the different emotions felt along the way through instrumentation and melodically too. It’s like following someone’s train of thought. The titles of the tracks also help lead the flow of this story as they relate to eachother…. ‘First Interruption’, ‘Second Interruption’, ‘Third Interruption’, ‘Fourth Interruption’ and ‘First Reflection’, ‘Second Reflection’, ‘Final Reflection’.

A track that stuck out to me was ‘Swim in Circles’. This song had gentle vocals and delicate percussion which created a peaceful ambience, making for a very enjoyable listen.
‘Follow Down’ began with beautifully arranged strings and butter smooth, blended backing vocals which created a peaceful, melancholy tone. As the story progressed in this song the tone changed to be happier and the track got more upbeat, introducing different instrumentation such as an accordion to convey this new found brightness.
The final song ‘Exit’ closes the album seamlessly as it gradually fades out, leaving your imagination to paint a beautiful picture.
This album was a lovely listen. It is beautifully created and clearly thought out extremely well. There is nothing like it. Listen here!
