SINGLE REVIEW | DELTAMANIC | AIN’T NOTHIN’ BUT SOUL

Alloa’s 7-piece funk and soul outfit Deltamanic delve into a different soundscape on their latest single, Ain’t Nothin’ But Soul. A smooth and chic 70’s inspired track.

The band showcase their talent and wear their influences on their sleeves right from the first second, a Marvin Gaye style of opening as the track begins with some gorgeous instrumentation that’s hooks you instantly.

Lead singer Dean Oliver showcases his classy and silky vocals in the first verse before Deltamanic show that they know soul like the back of their hand, blasting out some beautiful harmonies in the pre chorus and chorus.

The production of this track is excellent, the drums sound crisp, the bass passages are groovy and some of the guitar sounds are reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix’s Voodoo Child.

This track is exactly what it says on the tin. It is soul music right to its very core. The tune is a departure from the more fast paced, funky sound of their previous singles. Showing that Deltamanic aren’t just a one trick pony, they cover all bases in the world of funk and soul.

This is the groups fourth single release, and with it comes a slew of show announcements, including a slot at this year’s Party At The Palace festival in and a show at Edinburgh’s Mash House. This Alloa collective are striving to be the future of Scotland’s funk, soul and disco scene.
