SINGLE REVIEW | POST COAL PROM QUEEN | BODY OF WATER

This is the latest single as part of a side project for Lily Higham and Gordon Johnstone, two-thirds of electro alt-pop power trio L-Space. The Post Coal Prom Queen duo has teamed up with Japanese electro-pop visionaries Macaroom to create a multi-lingual melodic treat.

“Body of Water” opens with Lily’s ethereal and haunting voice reciting a single acapella line “I am water” followed by well-placed single synth note dripping in delay imitating the sound of a drop of water, intriguing the listeners’ eardrums compelling them to take a deep dive into this track, a cleverly constructed combination of lyrical and sonic imagery.

The composition of the track is a dreamy mix of layered melodic synth sounds, accompanied by a rhythmic acoustic guitar part that almost acts as additional percussion, accenting the meandering groove of this track.

Macaroom

The addition of Emaru’s (Macaroom) breathy rapping in her native Japenese, brings a new wave and flow midway through the track, creating a lush and textured audio experience for the audience.
