Single Review | The Regents | More Than A Friend

Inverclyde indie five piece The Regents release second track ‘More Than A Friend, following on from their sensational debut track ‘I’d Like to Know’. Quickly solidifying their sound, The Regents pull on heartstrings once again with their jangly guitars, vibrant sound, and catchy melodies, offering a unique sound to the Scottish scene.

More Than A Friend‘ starts with a simple riff that plays throughout the song, at the snap of the snare the band kicks in, it’s an instant attention grabber.

“Cigarette lights up your face, pretty eyes make no mistake”

The lyrics and vocals are a standout feature of the track, detailing the daunting task of revealing love to a friend. The depth in the track contributes massively to the overall sound, with arena-filling electric guitar, keys, synths and strings placed throughout to provide a great listening experience and will be stuck in your head all week.

Don’t tell me you’ve got to go, call me crazy, there’s something that you should know”

The bridge is ridiculously catchy and uplifting before the burst of the chorus,

“I’ll tell ya something honey, I’d like to know ya, know ya, as more than a friend”

With a voicemail integrated before the second verse, the track’s high level of production by Chris Marshall allows it to become a track that would be perfect for the radio. The bridge between chorus’ features grungy distorted guitar, providing an eyebrow raising ending to the track.

Having already supported the likes of Deco, Lloyds House, as well as been included in St Luke’s All Dayer on June 8th the band are continuing to slot nicely into the Glasgow scene. Make sure you check out the bands socials and check out the track below!
