EP REVIEW | FRASER MACPHERSON | UNEARTHED

Unearthed, an EP full of heartfelt and emotional tracks is Fraser Macpherson’s newest release. Unearthed is Fraser’s 5th EP and it features a different feel from his usual work. The Glasgow based musicians’ previous EP, Sketches is all instrumental, whereas Unearthed includes Macpherson’s soothing yet expressive singing.

Unearthed begins with Which One, a beautiful track featuring Fraser’s gentle vocals and calming acoustic guitar. This song sets the vibe for the rest of the EP. The song is then followed by new love which personally is my favourite track on the whole ep. I love how you can really hear the emotion in Macpherson’s voice. Especially in lyrics like “what more can I do” which he sings repeatedly throughout the song. We then hear Everything Disappears which has a sadder feel to it, once again full of touching lyrics. Armchair politician is the second last song on the EP, and I would say that its right up there with new love for me! I really can’t get enough of Frasers’ vocals. The last track is I Don’t Want to Get in Your Way, which I think is a perfect song to end the EP on. Frasers vocals have a bit more reverb in this one and they seem stronger.

Overall, the EP is beautiful and it’s genuinely something I could see myself listening to again, probably in my room with a few candles lit and some cozy pjs. Macpherson’s talent is something that you don’t see in every artist. He captures his emotions perfectly in his vocals and I really look forward to hearing more of his work. I think that his choice to include his vocals in these tracks were a great choice. However, I do also enjoy his instrumental stuff! I would definitely recommend him to those who enjoy folk/instrumental music, and if you enjoy Unearthed, please give sketches a listen! Like I said earlier, its fully instrumental but it gives Frasers’ amazing skills on acoustic guitar a space to shine.
