SINGLE REVIEW | MARK SHARP AND THE BICYCLE THIEVES | SUPERMAN

It’s true. Mark Sharp and The Bicycle Thieves just keep getting better. Fresh from an incredible European tour supporting Mr Lewis Capaldi himself, MS&TBT have released their second single of the year so far Superman. Not shy of the main stage themselves though, MS&TBT played a sold out King Tuts earlier this year and expect to do the same with their postponed Scottish dates in September.

“‘Superman’ is about being there for someone no matter what. The ‘electric skies’ are representative of the hard times and turmoil that life brings, but this song is a message for the people around me who are finding it tough that I’ll have their back”.

Mark Sharp on Superman

Like 2023’s earlier offering – Last Dance – this new release from the West Lothian five piece has a burning hook. Superman is laden with high energy, captivating melodies and oodles of electro synth goodness. The intro hints at an electro direction away from their usual indie pop sound, however this is quickly reassured with the introduction of Mark’s warming vocals. Soothing yet raspy, Mark’s whiskey voice is at the core of MS&TBT talent.

Superman has all the infectious qualities found in the likes of indie rockers Stereophonics or Feeder. Cohesive indie pop at its best, MS&TBT have delivered once again and it’s only a matter of time before these guys are hitting the charts like their headlining fellow West Lothian Capaldi pal.
