SINGLE REVIEW | DIET CIGARETTE | UNINVITED

Signing to Glasgow’s 7 West Music roster before the release of any music turned heads towards the indie outfit – and they’ve certainly delivered with their second release ‘Diet Cigarette’.

Strong, soothing harmonies, chunky chorus-effect chord progressions and solidifying drum and bass work forms the basis of Uninvited’s fresh sound – most evident in their latest singalong track.

Formed after a series of chance meetings on public transport in Dundee with some help from Instagram, Taylor-Ray Dillon (vocals/bass), Gillian Dhlakama (vocals/guitar), Bex Young (guitar) and Fiorenza Cocozza (drums) became Uninvited in August 2020. Within the space of just a few weeks, they signed to 7 West Music and reached 1K followers on Instagram.

Members Gillian Dhlakama and Taylor-Ray Dillon commented the tune is their way of “taking back power in one-dimensional relationships and friendships that leave you burnt out, as if it was only a matter of convenience to them.”

So few can boast playing alongside Dead Pony to a sold out King Tut’s as their debut show where a live rendition of Diet Cigarette was debuted to a welcoming reaction. The tune was a stand out of their set, being instantly recognisable through the instrumental in the introduction that repeats throughout the track.

Hailed as “promising newcomers” by London’s Lock Magazine, the combination of a self-assured stage presence and memorable singalong indie tunes inevitably predetermines Uninvited as a one to watch for upcoming shows, of which they will be sure to receive many offers. Catch the indie four-piece performing in Audio, Glasgow on Friday 29th October supporting Velvet alongside Big Girl’s Blouse
