SINGLE REVIEW | BETWEEN THE LINES | SET ON YOU

The Courier described Between The Lines as “One of Scotland’s most exciting and promising young bands” and I could not agree more. The amount of talent this young 5 – piece have is unreal, and they are only going to keep growing within the Scottish scene. Between The Lines are a Dunfermline based indie-rock band, formed in 2015. They have played numerous gigs in their hometown as well as venturing to big cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh. They have also secured support slots for some of the biggest bands in the Scottish music scene right now, including Shambolics and The Dunts. Being from Fife myself, I have seen first hand the amount of local support these boys have, and it won’t be long until they are headlining and selling out the big venues themselves, watch this space!

Between The Lines have not long released their latest single, “Set on You” and it has already had over 1,500 plays on Spotify and proved be a big hit within the scene. The intro of the song is focussed on the bass guitar, you can hear the sheer amount of talent seeping through as it progresses, before the electric guitar and drums kick in, which creates a powerful burst of energy from the get-go.

The vocals are very unique, and you can tell straight away it’s a Between The Lines tune, without it sounding too familiar to their other singles. The lyrics are very punchy, and I love how “all the lies you said were true” is repeated throughout the song, it builds a lot of excitement and I can’t help but to imagine this tune live in a packed-out PJ Molloy’s, it would sound immense. “Set On You” flows really nicely and I think the echoing vocals play a big part in that, it almost has a deep, dark vibe to it which I think is really effective.

Towards the end of the song we have a break which starts off again with the bass guitar that builds up to the last powerful chorus before the tune ends with a large instrumental outro. The prominent sound of the electric guitar makes the ending sound very rock n’ roll. The band certainly focussed on making sure every second of this tune was strong and packed with great vocals and instrumental solos, I can see “Set on You” becoming very big and I can’t wait to hopefully hear it live soon!
