We had the chance to catch up with Edinburgh-based 4-piece Usual Affairs and discuss their dream headliners, dream collaborations and the Scottish music industry.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Right now, not being able to gig!
What or who got you into music?
For all of us, definitely family.
If you could have 3 musicians headline a festival, dead or alive, who would it be?
The Jam, Oasis, Bad Boy Chiller Crew (BBCC)
What is your dream gig venue?
Definitely the obvious answer of the Barras. We would also love to eventually play Glasgow Green!
If you had to describe Scottish gig culture in 3 words, what would they be?
Bouncing, exhilarating, dynamic.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Paul Weller or Johnny Took
What plans do you have for any new releases such as videos or gigs?
We have just announced a gig at Sneaky Petes in Edinburgh supporting RATS. That has officially sold out and we cannot wait.
What did you get upto during Lockdown?
Recorded as much as COVID restrictions allowed us to and wrote as much as possible.
What are some of your favourite up and coming bands from Scotland?
The Capollos for sure, Shambolics and Voodoo’s.
What’s a few songs that you listen to and think “God, I wish I wrote this”?
Private Hell – The Jam, She bangs the drums – Stone Roses, Play It Out – DMA’s
How do you think the gig scene in Scotland is going to look in 2021?
We reckon it will be huge. Obviously people are seriously passionate about music but Everyone being in lockdown I think it will make people appreciate gigs and live music that little bit more after a seriously difficult couple of years.
For those who aren’t familiar with your music, how would you describe it?
Energetic tunes with very relatable story telling lyrics. Social commentary if you like.

What is the best musical advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t try to be a rockstar, play your music purely because you like to play your music.
