Gig Review | Neck Deep | 16.10.23 Slay, Glasgow.

Neck Deep absolutely “Slay” their epic return to Glasgow, in order to celebrate 10 years of Rain in July!

The 5 – piece pop punk band from Wrexham, Wales landed in Slay, Glasgow to perform a special sold out performance of both their classic EP’s (Rain in July and A History of Bad Decisions, which released 10 years ago in 2012/2013) as well as a few fan favourites along the way!

This super energetic show took place in Slay, a 550 capacity venue in Glasgow’s Merchant City and it did not disappoint. The lack of barrier in front of the stage made the show feel even more intimate and it felt like you were actually on stage rocking with the band. And as a photographer, I was holding onto my camera for dear life.

Taking a trip down memory lane we hear the songs that started it all – “Kick It” and “A Part of Me”. From their hardcore belters to their lovely acoustic songs, they certainly have a variety of tunes and a special way of making you feel every emotion in the space of a 2hr show. Ben (lead singer) even said that nowadays people often say they’ve gone “soft” but I agree with Ben as he said they’ve always had their softer side of music, always been emotive and to be honest, always kicked me right in the feels. Especially when hearing songs such as “In Bloom” or “December”, which they decided to conclude their Glasgow set with!

This year, having witnessed Neck Deep perform at Download Festival to over 100,000 people, to now seeing them in this intimate space, just proves even more that these guys can definitely get a crowd going wild no matter the space. To be honest, I might have even preferred this tiny wee show in Slay more as the wonderful chaotic energy from the band and crowd was on point and stayed on point for the whole duration of the show. Looking forward to what the future holds for these lovely lads from Wales, as I’m sure it will be wild!
