FEATURE | MEET THE TEAM | KIERAN ANDREW

What’s your role at DM?
Writer.

How long have you been part of DM for?
About 3 weeks!

Outwith DM, what do you do?
I’m a tattoo artist when the world is functioning normally.

Why did you want to join DM?
My love for music, and appreciation of the Scottish music scene

Who’s your favourite Scottish artists?
Declan Welsh and the Decadent West, Gallus, Pleasure Heads, Snash, Mark Sharp & The Bicycle Thieves, Voodoos, The Lathums, too many to choose!

Best gig you have been to?
Probably Billy Bragg at St Luke’s in 2019, played for hours, played a massive variety of tunes, stayed about after to meet everyone. Generally just an amazing performance and atmosphere.

Best venue in Scotland you have been to?
St Luke’s, the sound is so rich, they book amazing acts, plus bar is great

Favourite festival you have attended?
Tenement Trail!

If you could create your own festival, who would be your 3 headliners?
Prince, Anderson Paak, Run the Jewels.

What’s your favourite genre of music and why?
Probably hip hop, I like music that focuses on lyrics mainly. Acts like RtJ, Vince Staples, Denzel Curry, Jeru tha Damaga all have a socially conscious side to their music that helps shift the image of hip hop from being straight gangster rap. Punk is a close second.

How would you describe the Scottish music scene in 3 words?
Dynamic, electric, varied

What’s the best and worst thing about the Scottish Music scene?
The best thing is probably the accessibility right now, it’s allowing more acts to have the opportunity to showcase their talent.
Worst thing is hard to choose, the gigs are always great for me. Some of the venues could do with a revamp, I’m a bit sick of the same damp basements.

Favourite drink at the pub?
Southern Comfort and Coke.
