THE RANTS @ GARAGE ATTIC | GIG REVIEW

Paisley natives The Rants headlined the Garage Attic, and it was not a show to miss.

For those unfortunately not able to attend, i can definitely say you missed out on a night of amazing burgeoning musicians from Glasgows music scene.

The first act to support The Rants were Fall from Grace, a group of boys with a passion for pop punk.

The quartet braved the stage after finding out only yesterday they were playing the gig, after Monday Mob were unable to play.

They opened their set with a punch playing Green Day’s American Idiot, followed by an array of pop punk influenced tunes.

Lead singer/Guitarist, Micheal Doyle, captivated the small-yet growing- crowd with his lyrics, having those in the crowd singing along with him.

They played some originals such as Once Apon a Time in Hollywood and my personal favourite, Holiday.

The crowd perfectly warmed up the quaint venue with an already growing anticipation in the air.

The Sketch were the next band to bless our ears a five piece band showcasing their newfound-synth style. Members Alan Webster and Adam McClure alternated between guitar and keys, adding the iconic melody to New Orders Age of Consent.

I liken lead singer Leon Mackenzie to Ian Curtis, as his presence on stage rings familiarity, along with the likes of David Byrne.

The boys also covered the likes of Fontaines DC and Talking Heads, taking hold of the crowd with their lively stage presence as they had them all sing along.

The room was buzzing with excitement all night, and by 8:45 it was time for the main attraction.

The Rants graced the stage with confidence like no other, gearing up for an hour of good vibes and good tunes.

The quartet started out with a cover of Wunderhorse’s ‘July’, a band that clearly influences the boys.

They played a myriad of their own material and covers. I would recommend the talented foursome to fans of Fontaines DC, Wunderhorse, Inhaler and more indie-esque bands.

Lead singer and guitarist Fionn Lyons had the best stage presence i’ve seen in a long time. Every note they played filled him with electricity as he grooved on stage.

Bassist Fraser Carstairs unfortunately broke both his feet, but this didn’t stop the lads as he played the whole set sitting on the bass amp, admirably.

Some personal favourites from The Rants are M.O.Y and Fly, they definitely a band to watch, with their upcoming slot at Pavilion Festival in summer alongside the likes of James.

All three bands performed amazingly, bringing a great atmosphere to the venue and great tunes, a night to remember.
