SINGLE REVIEW | Rosie H Sullivan | Lights

Lights is the third single release from Indie Folk artist Rosie H Sullivan’s upcoming debut EP due for release early 2023.  Sticking with the same ambient sound as the previous two tracks, Lights is a beautiful story of not just love but the journey we take to find it.

Writing and performing since her teenage years on the Isle of Lewis, Rosie exposes a relatable vulnerability whilst demonstrating a musical talent beyond her years. Lights is a metaphor for falling in love and the sparks we have to experience before we reach the full light of love.

At first, I didn’t imagine Lights sounding as raw as it ended up, but as soon as I listened back with my producer Ross Hamilton, I was obsessed. I love that you can hear the creaks from the guitar as I play, I think it adds so much character.

Rosie H Sullivan

Sharing the same dreamy sound as the likes of Grammy nominated Phoebe Bridgers, Rosie already has an impressive agglomeration of achievements behind her. Her last single So I’ve Been Told received considerable critical acclaim including being named BBC Radio Scotland’s Afternoon show ‘Single of the Week’. Furthermore, Rosie also performed at this year’s Belladrum Festival and featured in a stripped back live session for BBC Scotland/BBC Alba TV highlights show.

Lights is an incredibly beautiful example of metaphoric songwriting. A comforting soothing piece of music which invites you to listen to over and over again. Rosie’s soulful gentle vocal blends beautifully with the organic ambient guitar sound and the cello accompaniment adds emotional depth and character to Rosie’s poetic lyrics. A compelling artist you should look forward to hearing more of in 2023.
