SINGLE REVIEW | RIANNE DOWNEY | HARD

A stunning new single from one of Scotland’s freshest talents

Thursday has rolled around again and today we have been blessed with a dreamy new single from Rianne Downey.

The 21-year-old is one of Scotland’s freshest young talents. Rianne’s rapid rise to success is a testament to her talent and capability as an emerging songwriter.

Her upwards trajectory kicked off with the release of her debut single in February 2021, and since then she’s taken the live circuit by storm playing headline shows, festival sets and supported the likes of Courteeners and The View.

‘Hard’ is our first taste of Rianne’s upcoming ‘Come What May’ EP which will be released on Friday the 17th of February.

The track is emotive pop at its best. Rianne’s vocals soar with emotion, her unique voice is untouchable on this track, and it truly sets her apart from her peers. The track features a stunning string section that adds to the warmth and sentiment of the track overall.

The track’s lyrics are honest and confessional as she tells the relatable story of lost love. Rianne commented: “It’s a love song and the first straight up love song I’ve released. It’s about trying to make it work out but it’s just not destined to be, though everything’s going to work out, one way or the other, in the end. Sometimes people, especially women, can be tricked into thinking they can change the person they’re with to make an imperfect situation perfect but it’s not going to be as simple as that.”
