SINGLE REVIEW | JOHN CHRISTOPHER | SPRINGTIME IN OCTOBER

John Christopher, 23, is a Glaswegian singer-songwriter who has just released a stunning debut single.

John has been playing live shows across the city for a while now and is well known in Glasgow, having gained a reputation as one of the indie scene’s most exciting emerging talents. We’ve been waiting patiently for his first official single release, and the young artist did not disappoint.

Recorded in late November by Arran Black at Starla Recordings, ‘Springtime in October’ is a stripped back raw guitar track. Incredibly easy on the ears, the track is an introspective look at apathy and escapism. John’s soft vocals draw the listener in to an exceptionally melodic listening experience influenced by the likes of Lizzie Reid and The La’s. John also took inspiration from Floyd Cramer’s ‘Last Date’ which he was listening to around the time of writing.

John said of the single: “I was very hungover when I wrote it. It’s a song about feeling jaded and if it ever makes anyone’s hangover a little easier, I’ve done something right.”

If, like me, you’re a sucker for acoustic guitars and melancholic vocals then give ‘Springtime in October’ a spin below and follow John to keep up with future shows and releases.
