SINGLE REVIEW | DIVING HORSE | I DON’T NEED THE LORD

Glasgow’s Diving Horse have just recently released their newest single I Don’t Need The Lord, where they explore the sounds of indie pop ballads that intertwine through thoughtful lyricism.

I Don’t Need The Lord ultimately reflects a theme that entices a disco dance style, which fully immerses you with every listen.

The band outline that the single “is about being a bit retro” which undeniably meets the mark as it fully transports you into an 80’s disco diverting you with the nostalgic sounds of dance punk. This release identifies why Diving Horse are so unique, making this single a fresh addition to the Scottish music scene.

From the start of the song, the drums blend into a techno beat, where the lyrics flow throughout and amp up each section, the upbeat, anthemic sound outlines the song’s exploration of disillusionment and finding one’s own path in life, which the band execute impeccably in this new release.

The upbeat feeling within the reverberations after the first verse guides into the second verse flawlessly and leads into the lyric

“I feel like breathing now, I feel”

Which then moves into riffs, giving the energetic sound that makes you want to get up and dance.

With every “I feel” it creates an uplifting and empowering tone that somehow makes you feel like shaking your head and kicking your feet to the rhythm.

Leading to the second pre-chorus, they shift to the lyric

“I’m feeling free right now, I feel”

Which undoubtedly breaks the pattern and plays into themes of self reflection, it’s no doubt the thoughtful lyricism has a part in the uplifting tone this song gives.

The chorus maintains the upbeat dance feel which blends into the bands’ alternative indie sound, making for a feel good listen each time it plays.
