The Livingston boys are here to chase your “perpetual Winter” blues away and my word, have they succeeded.
A burst of sunshine in every beat (courtesy of Allan Ramsey’s groovy drum beat and Joe Murty’s extraordinary bass skills), it’s what you should be able to expect from music. Fun, carefree and created not for any other reason than just because it can be. Dictator aren’t trying to fit into any moulds, instead they refuse to be confined to one genre with hints of indie-rock/indie pop and hip-hop sprinkled throughout, making for one incredibly danceable listen.
‘Screwball Scramble’ rushes you straight back to the untroubled joyousness of the nineties (as demonstrated by the name) with Zach Goodhur’s hard-hitting guitar riffs and Michael Campbell’s vocals blowing you away, effortlessly hitting every demanding high-note. Infused with passion and lots of energy, it’s clear to see that the band are doing what they love and enjoying every second of it.
Taking on a different sound compared to their two previous EPs ‘Rubik’s Cube’ and ‘Middle of the Road’, 2026 promises the band an exciting future if ‘Screwball Scramble’ is anything to go by.
The song is a reminder that living as your true self is the best decision you could ever make with lyrics including “I’m far too young to act my age / just be who you want, if it frees up your soul”, you can’t help but feel in a better mood after every listen. Addictive and undeniably Dictator at the top of their game, it’s one that demands to be added to your “on repeat” playlist.
Playful, vibrant and astounding, ‘Screwball Scramble’ is an excellent track to kick off the new year and proves the need to get into Dictator now before they go global. What are you waiting for? Go and check them out now!
