Glasgow Garage-Punk band of three Casual Drag have released their new single ‘The Talk’ on 29th April. This band is known for their untamed riffs, animalistic vocals and their explosive live performances. The band have racked up an impressive number of live performances since their creation in 2019. They have come off the back of a joint tour with a band called Grogg, where they played Nice n Sleazy in Glasgow, Musical Vision in Aberdeen, and Leith Depot in Edinburgh. They are currently running around London, Brighton, Leeds, with another date in Manchester, the only Scottish date for this tour is in Glasgow at The Art School on June 12th so get going.

The band is made up of Richard Clarke on vocals and guitar, Dominic MacInnes on bass, and Matt Charlton on drums. The Talk is about manipulation and falling under the influence of someone who doesn’t have your best interests at heart. It’s about all the corrupt Svengalis that talk ‘The Talk’ and have everyone under their spell but with sinister intentions for no good.

The track starts off quite slow with a catchy riff of the guitar and vocals that has a slight echo as if it was recorded in an abandoned building. Dominic’s bass playing is perfect for this song and you can appreciate the song more hearing his craftsmanship. The track starts slow but builds up to the chorus which has Clarke shouting through the mic that has a sound of like it has been recorded through a radio, kind of like what Gorillaz does but not quite. Through the chorus is has these loud “woo’s” slipped in, it really adds to the song and I’m sure I can see a live crowd being involved, Ric Flair would be proud. Casual Drag’s powerful track finishes on a gritty loud guitar solo and a mash of sound that just holds the listener to the very end.
If you want to have a listen, have at it. And if you want to see them live, see you at The Art School soon
WOO!
