SINGLE REVIEW | BLACK DOVE | THE BACKROOM

Inverclyde’s indie pop darlings Black Dove have made their grand return to the Glasgow music scene with their sparkly new tune, The Backroom.

The band of five are known for their energetic line deliveries and pleasant harmonies, both of which are on full display with The Backroom. The song opens with a catchy guitar hook that sets the atmosphere perfectly. Black Dove take us on a journey of growing older and realising your clubbing days are far behind you. However, vocalist Josh Cunningham puts a positive spin on the situation, throwing in some humour with the line, “Two drinks and I’m hungover“. It’s an easy listen that’s a nice blend of The Snuts and The Kooks that’ll scratch that indie-pop itch you may have. The Backroom features plenty of hooks that’ll get the crowd moving and singing along at the lads next gig.

The Backroom is Black Dove’s second single released this year after three years without new music. 2024 is shaping up to the be the band’s year, especially with their upcoming headline performance at King Tuts.
