SINGLE REVIEW | AROUND 7 | WILL TO SURVIVE

AROUND 7 - 1

Around 7 have just released their first single of the year, ‘Will To Survive’ under their new Canadian label, SODEH Records. The Scottish punk trio’s anthemic new tune encapsulates the band’s music to date. 2023 saw the band with releases, ‘Broken’ – a melodic and emotional track and ‘This Ain’t Your Soundtrack’ – a more upbeat and expected punk rock number from the band. ‘Will To Survive’ takes the best of both these songs and smashes them together to create a dynamic addition to their discography.

The lone piano intro makes for a pleasant surprise before being quickly accompanied by Ryan Carroll’s mellow vocals. The first minute naturally builds with Lachlan Wallace and Adam Cashley on bass and drums respectively adding to the anticipation before breaking into a big melodic chorus reminiscent of nineties and noughties punk bands from which they’re influenced by.

It’s in this moment you realise the song will make a great addition to 7’s live show with a clear crowd participation moment as the backing vocals chant ‘Woah’ (that’s nineties and noughties for you!) over and over again in a melody that’s hard to forget. From here on there’s no backing down as the band keep up the momentum into a heavy interlude before bringing the song home with Carroll bellowing ‘Where is your will to survive?’

With multiple gigs across the country from Dundee to London over the summer, be sure to keep an eye out for Around 7 playing a gig near you!
