MEET THE TEAM | RACHEL CUNNINHAM

What’s your role at DM?
Hello all, I’m mainly responsible for all our website needs. I am also a writer, with a keen interest in all things festivals. I work with the other top Dream Team members to keep the Discovery engine running smoothly, and take care of proofing content from our wonderful writers

How long have you been part of DM for?
Hard to believe but I’ve been with the DM team for 2 years! Still loving every minute!

Outwith DM, what do you do?
I’m a statistician at the Scottish government, apparently I am both a left brain and right brain kinda person. I’m also keen into my sports, running and mtbing as often as I can. Randomly, I practice handbalancing and lift heavy weights too!

Why did you want to join DM?
I had been reviewing for another Scottish outlet since 2008 and sadly due to personal reasons they had to close shop, shortly after I saw the ad for Discovery and got in touch, and the rest is history.

Who’s your favourite Scottish artists?
I’m a big fan of the Snuts, as I’m sure many of us are! But also Chvrches, Tom McGuire and the Brassholes and Colonel Mustard and the Dijon Five.

Best gig you have been to?
Always a hard question, but has to be The View at T in the Park before anyone knew who The View really were

Best venue in Scotland you have been to?
Always the Barras with Tuts a close second.

Favourite festival you have attended?
Scottish: Doune the Rabbit Hole
UK: Sunrise Festival
Europe: Greenfields Festival

If you could create your own festival, who would be your 3 headliners?
I’d go for Tom McGuire and the Brassholes, Firebrand Boy and The Snuts.

What’s your favourite genre of music and why?
I’m not sure I can bring myself to answer this question as my music interests are as multifaceted as a giant gemstone, but I’m somewhere between pop punk and indie.

How would you describe the Scottish music scene in 3 words?
Braw. Bold. Beautiful.

What’s the best and worst thing about the Scottish Music scene?
The best thing is the energy here, I’ve lived abroad in different countries and the one thing I always miss is the buzz of Scottish music, especially the live scene! The worst thing is that there’s so much on offer, you can’t do it all.

Favourite drink at the pub?
A Kryptonite. IYKYK
