We got the chance to catch up with the lads from Connor Clark and the Matador Kings during lock down!

What effects has the lockdown had on you as an artist?
Sadly this has forced us to postpone 2 Glasgow shows that we were dead excited to play. Its shit but we’d rather make sure everyone in the band and crowd was safe. Our first rescheduled date is 18th of July at broadcast Glasgow.

How have you taken advantage of all the free time?
We have been working on home demos, DIY tasks, catching up or starting boxsets, uni work and working from home.

What’s your first drink at the pub when we’re allowed out?
 Connor:Pint with a whiskey.
Ray: Pint of Draught Ale.
Euan:Anything Strong.
Dylan:Anything with alcohol.

What are you most looking forward to at your first live gig back?
Connor:playing the tunes, feeling the energy watching the crowd reaction.
Ray: Just to be able to play again.
 Euan: Hearing the crowd again.
Dylan: Just to play again.

For those who aren’t familiar with you, how would you describe your music?
Fast paced, electric, in your face, good rock n roll.

If you could cover one song, what would it be and why?
Connor: Biffy Clyro – Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies, Great tune, very heavy sounding with great lyrics
Ray: Oasis – Hello because it would be a kick ass opener.
Euan: Arctic Monkeys – The View From The Afternoon because the drum part is so much fun and fits in well with the rest of the set.
Dylan: Arctic Monkeys – Do Me A Favour due to the strong drums throughout and the heavy finish.

What’s your favourite Scottish artists / bands at the moment?
Connor: Biffy Clyro, Retro Video Club, Baby Strange, The Dunts.
Ray:CCMK, Dirty Shoes <- can tell which bands he plays with.
Euan: Kasama, Biffy Clyro, Black Tiles and The Capollos
Dylan: Kasama

What’s your favourite Scottish venue you have played at?
Connor: Lemon Tree (Aberdeen)
Ray: Lemon Tree (Aberdeen) or NICE N SLEAZY’S (Glasgow)
Euan: Lemon Tree (Aberdeen)
Dylan: Lemon Tree (Aberdeen)

Describe the Scottish music scene in 3 words?
Exciting, Punky, Energetic.

What do you think 2021 will be like on the gigging scene?
Connor: I am very hopeful that more people become more outgoing and go out and see up and coming artists
Ray: Much the same as Dylan, people will get out and see more bands.
Euan: I’ve got a good feeling that even bigger and better things are in store for us.
DylanI think people will stop taking local gigs for granted and realise what’s around us.

Should we expect any new music in the near future?
Definitely, we are aiming to get back in the studio in September or possibly earlier which is always exciting.
