Alameda

First up were Alameda who stunned the crowd with their dynamic blend of originals and covers. Their rendition of The Stooges classic, “I Wanna Be Your Dog” was a personal highlight, bringing an, almost post-punk, edge to their performance. Throughout their set they played some originals which did not go unnoticed by the crowd and brought a great sense of authenticity to the band in defining their sound. Alameda echo their influences with a fresh distinctive voice and are definitely a must see for those who get the chance.

Belgrades

Belgrades are a fresh band that are new to the Glasgow scene but they most certainly did not disappoint in their second ever gig. Their set was incredibly tight, full of potential and surprised myself and the crowd with their boldness, proving that they are a band to keep your eye on. They closed the night with a very confident and creative mash up of ‘Polythene Pam’ and ‘Love Me Two Times”. This blended The Beatles’ punchy rhythms with The Doors’ bluesy swagger which perfectly finished the set leaving the crowd buzzing. With this passion so early on, Belgrades are clearly headed for great things and I highly recommend giving them a listen at their next gig.

Fall From Grace

Inverclyde pop punk outfit Fall From Grace made their return to the Classic Grand this evening and delivered a set packed with energy that hooked the crowd immediately. They paid homage to some of the genre’s greats by performing very well executed covers from Green Day, Blink 182 and Bowling for Soup before finishing with the classic Ramones song ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’. Aside from these covers, the band also furnished us with their original songs, proving they have the songwriting ability to stand out in their own right. Fall From Grace create a unique sound with their pop punk influences, which is rare in the west of Scotland, and this band are no doubt worth keeping your eye on.

Papercut Peach

Papercut Peach are one of the most exciting new acts in the Glasgow scene. They delivered an incredibly electrifying set and everyone in the venue was simply blown away by the power exerted in the vocals and instrumentation. The band brought some serious presence to the stage and their blend of classic blues, rock and roll was a joy and absolute pleasure to listen to. Every single song was overflowing with skilful musicianship and attitude which was highlighted during their performance of their recently released debut single entitled ‘Strange Thing’ which had the crowd fully engaged and hooked.

Papercut Peach performed a flawless cover of ‘Foxy Lady’ complete with the guitarist playing behind his head, an undeniably entertaining nod to Jimi Hendrix which also showed off his raw talent and confidence. This was most definitely one of my favourite moments of the night and I can guarantee I was not the only one who thoroughly enjoyed watching this. Throughout their whole set, the energy never depleted. The venue was constantly ecstatic and the band never lost any momentum while on stage. To top their set off, they performed a magnificent cover of the Simple Minds classic ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’. One of my favourite bands of all time and they most certainly did the song justice. Every person in the venue was singing along by the end and was the ideal ending to a beautifully played set. Papercut Peach aren’t just a band to watch, but a band to experience, which is why the audience won’t forget them anytime soon and personally I can’t wait to see what’s next for them.
