GIG REVIEW | KIRSTEEN HARVEY w MIKE MCKENZIE @ THE POETRY CLUB

Glasgow-based singer-songwriter phenomenon Kirsteen Harvey took the stage at The Poetry Club on Saturday, and a delight it was.

To kick-start the night, we were treated to the talented Mike McKenzie. He gave us a beautiful range of his original songs that were heartfelt, bursting with raw emotion, setting a soulful tone for the rest of the night.

One of Mike’s songs that stood out to me was “Out Alive.”

Mike explained this song was written for the LGBTQ+ community to feel heard, safe, and welcomed, which was truly moving and emotional to hear.

Taking the stage with her warm presence was Kirsteen Harvey, accompanied by incredible musicians that blended seamlessly together, creating a unique atmosphere. They all brought an infectious energy to the stage that quickly moved through the room.

Kirsteen played a variety of her old and new songs, even treating us to some unreleased songs!

Kirsteen covered the memorable song “Caledonia,” which had the whole room singing along with her. It was a truly euphoric moment.

Throughout the night, Kirsteen offered a sense of familiarity, even when it was a room of total strangers. She truly made it feel like a gathering of family and friends, setting a unique tone from other concerts.

One of the highlights from the evening was when she played her newly released song “Burning On,” which has only just dropped this year, but you could tell was already a crowd favourite.

There’s no doubt that Kirsteen has a beautiful, delicate voice as well as stage presence, but she knows how to put on a show, and she definitely proved that!

Overall, I highly recommend giving Kirsteen Harvey a listen. Even though I didn’t know her personally, she really adds that personal touch to her gig and that’s what sets her apart from other artists!
