GIG REVIEW | DOUGIE MACLEAN @EASTERBROOK HALL DUMFRIES

Scottish musician Dougie MacLean has been performing for over 50 years and continues to share his talent as he came to Dumfries to host an outstanding night.

Dougie MacLean came on stage at 8pm. Dougie entertained the crowd with his jokes, songs and stories behind these songs. Dougie’s performances have a very authentic feel with just him and his guitar on stage. His songs contain the most beautiful guitar riffs which pairs beautifully with his soft toned vocals. The crowd were engaged and participating the whole night long. The crowd sang along to Dougies songs. At the end of the night Dougie surprised the crowd with him playing the fiddle. This is rare for him to do at his shows so it was a treat for the Dumfries crowd. He told the audience that he used to play the fiddle in the paisley band ‘The Tannahill Weavers’. His fiddle performance was outstanding, he played the piece beautifully. Dougie finished with his well known song ‘Caledonia’. This song has became a gem in Scotland with people singing it at all over. Caledonia is a love song to Dougies homeland, Scotland. Dougie invited a local sign language group in Dumfries in front of the stage to sign the lyrics to this song while he performed. This performance made me emotional to watch, it was simply beautiful. The nostalgic, heartfelt lyrics to Caledonia stirred me as they were so beautifully sung .

Dougie plays all of his music with pure passion and is a very talented musician. Being able to attend another one of his concerts was an honour.
