Gig Preview | Pierce the Veil | SWG3, Glasgow | 05.12.2022

Post-hardcore icons Pierce the Veil will make their long-awaited return to the UK for their first tour here in 6 years. Known for their unique style in mixing screamo and metalcore, the band will be heading to Glasgow to mid tour to take to the stage in the cities SWG3, a venue they have yet to play – December 2016 was the last time we had the pleasure of hosting the California 3 piece and let me say, it’s more than welcomed.

From the first date to the last, the tour is sold out across the board and it’s shaping up to be a very special return for the band to the UK – with supports coming from Carolesdaughter and Against the Current, the bill is packed with names no strangers to big nights and bands who aim to reach that level and both supports are certainly well on their way to that with the talents they hold.

The bands 2012 iconic single King for a Day has had a recent surge in daily listens following taking TikTok by storm becoming a commonly used sound – as someone that’s loved the band since Selfish Machines in 2010, it’s great to see the songs from Collide with the Sky, a record that made me fully fall in love with the band still get so much well-deserved love a decade on.

A quick look at the support and it sees two very exciting acts come along for this tour. First up we have California singer Carolesdaughter – with over 704,000 subscribers watching her every move on TikTok, as well as a hit debut single Porcelain Jesus dropping in 2020, saw her name sitting pretty under the likes of Billie Eillish and Taylor Swift on the Billboard Hot Rock & Alternative chart. If you after an artist who is using dark pop music to combine the hardcore with the delicate, redefining what it can mean to be feminine in the process to kick start any tour, this is the singer for you.

A band I feel I’ve waited a lifetime to see and personally I’m so happy to see them on this bill – pop punk New York legends Against the Current make a quick return to Glasgow having only played in King Tuts in April this year. With record number three Fever landing last year, the band have followed up with singles Wildfire and Teenagers as we head towards album four.

The stage presence of singer Chrissy Costanza has been said to be colossal and to finally see this band live after been glued to everything they have done over the last decade will be a special experience and one I can’t wait for.

To the headliners and really you can sit and chat for hours about Pierce the Veil and their live shows – Vic Fuentes and co put on a show you’ll never forget, having such a large gap since their last Glasgow visit, the energy build up will surely be off the charts. With this being an instant sell out, the scramble for tickets has been ongoing for months on end and I really wouldn’t want to miss what’s going to unfold in that room.

With their last record dropping in 2016, it was fresh and just an all-round buzz to see the boys release new music this year – Pass the Nirvana landed with the expected vicious riffs and killers screams from Fuentes that just instantly took me back to 2010. Following this came Emergency Contact, a completely different feel to PTN but one I was instantly loving from the first listen.

With the show fast approaching and the tour set to kick off in Cardiff, the excitement building is huge and each and every fan that walks through the venue doors from Cardiff to Leeds and everywhere in between are set to have a night they will not forget.

See you in the pit!
