Glasgow based Funksters Jutebox are embarking on their first official Scottish headline tour.
After releasing their debut EP ‘Soul Maintenance’ in August last year and having a run of successful live shows in venues across Scotland, Jutebox have hit the ground running and are set for what is sure to be an exciting 2025 as they hit the road for their debut tour.
As they embark on this next step in their journey, the band have had a full line-up and location change as they have moved from Dundee to Glasgow. Stepping onto the stage for the first time all together we have Cameron Hill on drums, Alex Thornton on guitar, Kai Murdoch on bass and a new horn section with Chris Murray on the trumpet and Rachel Duns on the saxophone.
As can be heard in their EP ‘Soul Maintenance’ the bands musical direction has started to lean more into funk and ska, and although their musical direction may change slightly, they are still committed to keeping that same energy that they have always had and with the addition of a new horn section I can imagine that their sound and presence on the stage will be more energetic and livelier than ever.
Being the band’s first headline tour, they have chosen to have local support for all their gigs with Echo Hotel Collective and North Orbital opening their Edinburgh gig at Sneaky Petes on April 10th, Roomfore and Triple A’s opening the Dundee show on April 12th and Sovirez and Disco Mary opening their Glasgow show at McChuills on April 13th. This line-up has ensured that this tour is set be a brilliant showcase of local Scottish talent.
The post tour ambition for Jutebox is to venture into the festival circuit and sell out more headline shows around Scotland and hoping to garner attention further afield while also settling themselves into the Glasgow music scene.
The band has based their brand on comradery and togetherness which is easy to hear in their music. The EP ‘Soul Maintenance’ is full of epic tunes, but a favourite of mine is ‘Eoi’ as I think that it perfectly highlights the direction in which the band are going as they continue to find and grow into their own sound that will make you go ‘Ah, now this is Jutebox tune.’
