GIG REVIEW | FISH @ O2 ACADEMY GLASGOW | 09.03.25

In a night filled with emotion and nostalgia, former Marillion frontman, Fish took the stage at the O2 Academy Glasgow on the 9th of March as part of his ‘Road to the Isles’ tour. The sold-out venue was packed with devoted fans eager to witness one of the final performances of a storied career. From the moment the doors opened, the energy inside the building was electric. Fans of all ages filled the 2,500-capacity venue

As the lights dimmed, the crowd erupted into cheers, signalling the start of an unforgettable evening. Fish kicked things off with Vigil which the crowd responded to with a huge cheer. He then played a selection of songs from his back catalogue including The High Wood parts 1-5 based on the story of battles and events around WW1. Fish explained all the songs were specifically chosen as they have a powerful and personal meaning to him, which Is the way he wants to end the tour.

He then launched into Slàinte Mhath, the first Marillion song of the night which was met with a huge cheer from the crowd, with many raising a glass to Fish himself. Waverly Steps followed before the main set was finished of with Raw Meat, of his 4th solo album ‘Suits’ before the band left stage.

The cover of Marillion’s Fugazi album flashed up on the screen much to the delight of the crowd, who then sang along with enthusiasm when Fish returned to stage. The band left stage again before the final encore which was opened with Lucky, another song from Fish’s solo catalogue. The penultimate song of the night was Marillion’s debut single Market Square Heroes, with the crowd belting the song out word for word. Fish then ended the night with The company, a fan favourite, which was a very fitting way to end the show.

Fish’s rapport with the crowd was strong as ever, as he shared anecdotes between songs, reflecting on his career over the years and expressing gratitude to his fans. The crowd responded enthusiastically, their energy unwavering from the start of the gig right to the very end. The penultimate gig of Fish’s career was certainly one to remember, and after a tremendous two and a half hour set the fans went home happy, although many with mixed emotions as it would be the last time they ever get to see the big man perform.
