GIG REVIEW|DAVID KUSHNER @ 02 ACADEMY GLASGOW

American musician David Kushner began his Europe & UK dichotomy tour in February 2025. This tour celebrates the release of his 2024 albumn ‘The Dichotomy’. Glasgow was a sold out show so the crowd was full and everyone was ecstatic for the great night ahead.

The talented Jenna Raine joined David Kushner for his tour from America. She made her way onto the stage at 8pm, starting off the show strongly. Jenna had a bubbly, energetic stage presence and a great sounding voice which the Glasgow crowed loved. She talked about her song writing and what her songs were written on. Jenna discussed how she set herself a challenge of writing 100 songs during the covid pandemic before 2022 which she accomplished. She wrote songs about many topics such as time she spent with David Kushner, growing up and being thankful for each day. Jenna sang her new single ‘21’ which was released at the start of 2025. She had the crowd singing with her as she sang her top songs roses, see you later(10 years) and It Is What It Is. Her 30 minute set flew by and I was sad to see her go.

David Kushner made an amazing entrance on stage just after 9pm. As he sang his opening song ‘No High’ I could tell I was in for a great night. David’s vocals were very powerful and had a lovely, rich tone. His vocal range was outstanding and he gave his all in his performances. The Scottish crowd were in great spirits and had to start some chants such as the classic ‘No Scotland no party’. David’s passion for music was clear as he shared his stories behind his songs. The story behind his song ‘Mr Forgettable’ stood out to me. Before singing this song beautifully he shared with the crowd that this song was about his grandad who suffered with dementia. The lyrics were very well written and this song really touched me. David talked about his faith, his life experiences and some of his struggles. He was open, honest and let himself be vulnerable which was really brave of him and the crowd was completely behind him, full of support. David sang ‘Love worth saving’, an amazingly written song from his new album ‘20 Years From Now’. He shared that this song was written about his parent’s recent divorce. David sang this song beautifully fuelled with immense passion. The night finished with David and the crowd roaring his hit song ‘Daylight’. The crowd was so loud it was unbelievable.

Being able to attend such a great concert was an honour. The pure passion David Kushner puts into his music is inspiring. Having cancelled the rest of his tour due to mental health I wish him all of the best. He is a truly amazing artist.
